The Shadow Gallery - Meriado's poetry/songs

Post by Meriado »

You enter a mysterious and dimly lit room. A few candles are the only thing shedding some light on the fabric covered walls. There are some paintings decorating the walls, but what really catches your eye is a huge, old book lying on a wooden table in the middle of the room. You walk up to the table and open the book. On the first page it says: "Property of Meriado..." and when you turn the page you find a collection of poems and songs.

OOC: In this thread I'll collect my poems and songs! I hope I'll be motivated/inspired to update it once in a while. Yes, I did borrow the name "The Shadow Gallery" from V for Vendetta - simply because it's awesome and I found it suitable.

Any comments are allowed - feedback and constructive criticism is much appreciated!

I hope you'll enjoy!

Ode to the Moon

You are up there in the sky,
but you are yet nearby;
You seem to shine so bright,
and are a wonderful sight

You are a guiding light,
like a watcher of the night;
Helping those who lost their way,
and you keep the dark at bay

You are a wonder of the universe,
and makes water go in reverse;
You are filling the void of space,
with an amazing grace

Comment:

This was my very first poem! I dedicated it to the moon, since I'm often fascinated by it and have been so for a very long time. I'd say that this is kind of work in progress and I might change it/rewrite it in the future.

A Stroll Through Edron

Let’s take a stroll,
through the great castle-city;
With its walls reaching for the clouds;
Flags softly dancing to the music of the wind;
Bathe in the golden light of morning

Let’s take a stroll,
towards the mighty Academy of Magic;
With its towers erupting from the sea;
Waves gracefully rolling in to the pulse of the ocean;
Listen while the mid-day bell rings

Let’s take a stroll,
towards the home of stones;
With its small houses surrounded by nature;
Trees seemingly moving in an endless sway of beauty;
Breathe in the fresh air of evening

This was a poem I wrote for TibiaNews poetry competition a few months ago. Some of my friends participated as well and one of them was Chikilina - check her poem out! And my good friend Avenlia Silvershade actually won the whole contest and got a yellow rose as a reward!

Meriado's Ale Song

Hey ho, hey ho, golden drink in my mug,
joy for both throat and mind
drink up, my friends, drink up!

Hey ho, hey ho, drinking all night long,
with dwarf, man, elf alike,
drink up, my friends, drink up!

Hey ho, hey ho, it's time for another round,
bring them in fast as light
drink up, my friends, drink up!

Comment:

A song perfectly suitable for a night at Frodo's. Sounds best when there are around twenty drunk (very drunk) people singing it in collaboration! :mrgreen:

Great poems Meri!
I especially like the last one, the drinking-song... We should all learn it and make it a tradition for our drinking sessions 8-)

Keep it up buddy! I enjoy reading your work.

I have been trying to write something like your drinking song for a long time... Never been able to yet... love it :D

Keep up the good work, Merry :)

EDITED: Idea of "The Shadow Gallery" thingy is really cool, may I steal it if I want? :D

Thanks for your kind and encouraging words, Nirdor!

Since I stole it from V for Vendetta, there's nothing stopping you from doing so too! Haha... what would you be using it for? :D

Welcome to Nirdor's Bar. Here you can see and buy his food and drinks. Here is his famous mead horn, sometimes when the guests are lucky they can hear it sings.

Meadhorn song (poem) .... etc..

Something like that :P
