Many springs ago a young promising druid was born into a clan of mages from the northwestern shores of Tibia, simple folk tending to weeds between Rosebud hamlet and the Ghostlands. While there, he met Gabriela, daughter to the chieftain, and the one true love of his life. They frolicked in the woods among the evergreens all afternoon at a young age.
But Gabriela, one day, went exploring alone, fell into a hole and found herself in the Ghostlands, where ill-prepared adventurers seldom survive. The village rallied and its best warriors sallied to the rescue. They recovered her body still alive, but her life-force rapidly draining. Even the best healers from the region were unable to block the stench, and she slowly withered away, to never roam this world again.
Crushed by the loss, Malasterix swore to someday learn a spell powerful enough to bring her back to life. He would not know defeat, and with that impetus the need to explore the world grew in him He was filled with the wanderlust of Banor.
He set off soon thereafter to perfect his skills at Edron Academy, the top magic school in the land, even though due to his upbringing and lineage he already was a highly adept healer. When he arrived, professors quickly took a liking to his methodical approach to knowledge and innate curiosity.
“Malas”, Wyrdin once confessed, putting a hand on his shoulder, “you’re going to go far!” That was certainly a boost to his ego, but also to his ambition, and ultimately to his goal.
He soon started dabbling in other areas of magic beyond classical healing, areas some might consider... unnatural. He perused all books on the necromantic arts, and perfected the act of animating the dead – at least insofar as the knowledge at Edron Academy went -- but alas even at that point he was only able to reanimate simple creatures, not a being as complex as a human.
But his obsession grew together with his knowledge. He started hearing voices in his head, voices calling him to unnatural places. He finished his education, becoming a certified Elder Druid, but knew he had to explore further, learn more, so he again set off. He followed those voices, and quickly found himself in Drefia, city of the undead. It reeked of evilness and enormity. But there he stayed for many weeks, even befriending a forward party of the Inquisition trying to contain Bakragore and his minions. That task, however, was still too hard for this young druid to undertake for now. But he explored deep and wide, even taming one of the notorious Gravediggers. And yet, he was no closer to his goal.
So he moved on, from undead region to undead region. He explored the Ankrahmun tombs, the long-forgotten bastions of knights now dead, and many more.
Eventually, he found himself back in Edron, investigating the notorious Demon Forge. Though he fought and overcame the creatures there, still he did not find the answers to his goal. But then, from the walls of the Forge, he heard a single name. “Ferumbras”.
That mage had turned to the dark arts before him, but for a wretched purpose. His purpose was noble.
He thought: “Ferumbras was abandoned by Banor for his hubris, but I’m different. I’m better. Maybe even better than Banor”. At that moment, his eyes briefly glowed red.
He left that crypt with newfound purpose. He would confront Ferumbras, and learn all the secrets that vile creature had discovered. Only then, only then would he be able to save his beloved Gabriela.
His search brought him to a house in Darashia, with a collection of demonic beasts along the way, and Ferumbras himself at the very end. The path was set. But, he couldn’t go at it alone. And, indeed, his heart grew heavy with the loneliness and the single-minded purpose of his goal.
“Perhaps companions I shall seek” he thought, and turned his eyes to possible groups of adventurers.
After much searching, he set upon the Red Rose, a guild noble and of true spirit, surely much like him. “These people will aid me in my quest, but perhaps they won’t truly understand the burden in my heart…”. So, he decided not to tell them what his endgoal was, even if he was truthful about the rest of the journey.
His credentials and demeanor and charisma naturally attracted the guild’s attention, and he was readily invited to be a part of their ranks. His eyes glowed red again. “My dearest Gabriela, soon I shall have you in my arms again”.
