The downfall of Yalahar and its tragic history has scarred the ancient city. To a true Yalahari, their former land has become nearly unrecognizable. Corruption and falsehoods plague the inner city while violence and chaos rule the outer sectors of the city walls. The false Yalahari, dawning their golden masks and living in luxurious homes, carry on with their lives while ignoring the crumbling society around them.
Nearly a century has passed since Osiris Blackheart walked the streets of the inner city. With his return, his eyes are opened to the inevitable degradation and continued collapse of the former Yalahari society after they fled their homeland. Osiris, son of Myrwen Blackheart and Vaelen Blackheart, noticed a table set up and a shady book salesman when passing by the Yalahar depot. The salesman is seated hunched over in dark tattered clothing with his face hidden entirely behind his long unkempt hair. He gave off an untrustworthy and mysterious vibe.
Osiris approaches the table and rummages through the selection of books presented. Near the bottom of the stack, a worn ancient black book catches his attention. The inside cover of the untitled book has the waxed Blackheart sigil and appears to be written by Demon Blackheart. Osiris questions the salesman with an angry tone.
Osiris Blackheart: Where did you find this?
Mysterious Salesman: Two crystal coins for each book.
Osiris Blackheart: That is not what I asked you.
Mysterious Salesman: Worry not of its origin. Either pay the price or move along.
Osiris Blackheart: No, I think I’ll keep it.
Mysterious Salesman: Not without payment.
The salesman opens the flap of his backpack on the ground next to him filled with Sudden Death runes.
Osiris Blackheart: You would strike me down, here, in the city?
Mysterious Salesman: With pleasure.
Osiris Blackheart: If you prefer, I can have one of the guardian golems smash this table, confiscate these stolen books, and toss you to the sea. It would be a justified action to protect the inner city from criminals and thieves such as yourself.
The salesman stands from his seat. He is much shorter in stature than Osiris, but his dark vibes and threatening energy must not be overlooked or underestimated.
Mysterious Salesman: False accusations! Now return the book to me at once.
Osiris raises his right hand and reveals a signet ring with the Blackheart sigil engraved on it.
Osiris Blackheart: This book is tied to my family heritage. I will be leaving with it in my possession without payment! If you want to escalate this any further, having these books taken will be the last of your worries.
The mysterious salesman notices their argument has caused a slight commotion. He can see the onlookers pointing and whispering among each other. To avoid further disruption to his business, he is seated once again. He replies to Osiris in a frustrated and defeated response,
Mysterious Salesman: Fine! Move along and take it with you. Leave me be! Now go!
Osiris walks away from the salesman and heads to the Yalahar library with the book safely secured.

Yalahar suffered a great massacre due to the negative influence of Variphor, an entity conjured by the Yalahri from a void between worlds in their quest for knowledge. In his book, Demon Blackheart suggests a theory that the Yalahari could have possibly controlled Variphor as a servant to do their bidding. He claims they lacked the unfound wisdom to gain power over him, and were not in possession of The Godbreaker to destroy him, which led to catastrophic results.
Osiris reads Demon Blackheart’s theory of tapping into a similar void to summon demons into our realm. However, these demons would be under the summoner’s control through dark magic. They would be his puppets to match the intensity of the demons that plague our world. Osiris studied for hours and eventually left the Yalahar library by nightfall headed for Roshamuul.
Outside of the Roshamuul depot, Retching Horrors and Choking Fears await travelers and terrorize the route to the city. Demonic creatures are scattered among the land and lurking in tombs. Variphor is certain to blame for the destruction of the city. Osiris vows to cleanse the land and wage war against the minions of darkness. Before venturing forward, he performs a ritual and reads a passage from his book. Two demons from another realm are summoned before him. In uncontrollable rage, the demons smash through the hordes of creatures and crumble tombs in their path. Their destruction was of an unstable magnitude and Osiris was unable to control them. To his dismay, his summons turned on him during the battle and killed him in the bone filled sands of Upper Roshamuul.

Osiris enters a white void after his death. An angelic voice speaks out to him.
Voice of a Goddess: Why?
Osiris Blackheart: I felt it was the only way, but I failed.
Voice of a Goddess: You fell victim to dark magic.
Osiris Blackheart: It was not my intention.
Voice of a Goddess: Your intentions led to your demise.
Osiris Blackheart: Will I be damned for my actions?
The voice pauses for a moment.
Voice of a Goddess: No
Osiris Blackheart: Then what will become of me?
Voice of a Goddess: Your actions were heroic in nature even if the result ended in your death.
Osiris Blackheart: Will I be forgiven?
The voice pauses again briefly.
Voice of a Goddess: It is not your time. You must return.
The voice fades from the white void and Osiris is re-awakened.

Upper Roshamuul was left in further ruin from the destruction left behind by his summons, which were no longer present. Flames covered the sands and smoke filled the air, but the surroundings were silent. Not a sign of life in sight. Osiris Blackheart is returned and stands where he collapsed. He is unharmed and feels as if he is in a new body. His mind and spirit are in alignment but he has taken on a new form. Giant golden wings have emerged from his back and flutter in the wind. By the grace of the Gods, he has been resurrected as a Celestial Avenger, and a beacon of divine light. He turns around and sees his book torched and burning in a pile of rubble. Across from it, he finds the corpse of his former self laying near the flames. He knows the memory of this day will never leave him, so he turns again, then walks away.
